Customize your Template

Templates can be configured to clearly define and help manage the standard audiovisual systems within your organization.  This page will go over the various customization options available to ensure an effective and well-structured standards definition.

1. Select a Template to Customize

Navigate to the list of templates and select a template to customize.

2. Template Summary

When first viewing a template, the Summary tab will initially be selected.  From here, you can define the identification and organizational elements of the template such as Name, Type, and Template Notes.

3. Template Files

The template files tab provides a consistent organizational structure to store all of the relevant documentation for a template.  If this is an Essentials based template, you will already see the files necessary to deploy these systems in the list of template files.

To add documents to the template, first select the category for the document on the left and then drag-and-drop the files onto the file upload area shown.

With the exception of Template Only files, all other files will be made available to systems created from this template.

Best Practice: Place the software source code in the Template Only category and the compiled code in the Control Software category.  This maintains the organizational benefits of keeping the source code with the template but eliminates the risk of unintentional changes being made during system installations.  The compiled code is made available at the system level and enables the installation team to efficiently complete their work.

4. Template Configuration (Optional)

The Configuration tab provides an interface to define the devices, their control points and interconnections, as well as the standard system behavior for this template.  The information provided here is available as a JSON configuration file that can be used with both PepperDash Essentials control software as well as custom developed control solutions.

The list of devices and their control points are also used to support automated compliance verification.

5. Processes

On the Processes tab, select the processes that should be used when deploying and supporting systems created from this template.

Best Practice: Name your template specific processes with template abbreviations.  This will make it easier to determine which processes should be included.

6. Compliance (Optional)

Compliance supported devices that are defined in the Configuration tab are listed here.  For each device, you can specify the compliance requirements for its attributes.

You have now completed the initial setup of your template.  From here, you can create your first system or go back to the PepperDash Portal Tutorials home page.
